Discovering Upland

What School Should Be.

At Upland Country Day School, we believe each student should feel known, loved, and valued. We believe children rise to high expectations and thrive on meaningful challenges. We believe that a quality, private school education should be accessible to all learners. We believe that a great education is the adventure of a lifetime.

Together, these beliefs have created a wonderful school — a place of exploration and possibility. They have shaped a wonderful school community, too, in which children flourish because they know they belong.

There are a variety of reasons to consider Upland Country Day School, including:

1

The Campus

Located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, just a few miles from the Delaware border, our 23 beautiful acres provides ample space for children to roam and explore— learning while both indoors and out.

2

Kleberg IDEA Center

A high-powered maker-space and STEAM laboratory, where students at every grade level learn design thinking and build projects that solve real problems.

3

Harkness Learning

Discussion-based seminar classes starting in 6th grade that make learning extraordinarily active and interactive.

4

Global Awareness

Thanks to the international exchange students we welcome every year, class trips abroad in eighth and ninth grade, and more.

5

Personal Connections

Through compassionate educators leading intimate class sizes, students receive ample individualized attention and support.

Mission & Philosophy

Our mission at Upland Country Day School is to provide a challenging academic, arts, and athletic program that nurtures the strengths of each child, fosters independent thinking, and develops graduates of character with a passion for learning, the confidence to take risks, and the perseverance to achieve success in school and life. To foster this environment, the School’s academic and extracurricular programs provide challenges and opportunities for a child so that they:

Feel known, loved, and valued

Engage in collaborative problem-solving that mimics real world application

Embrace the social responsibility of leadership and place in the community

Understand the logic and discipline of mathematics and its applications to the world

See the world through the eyes of a scientist as a place to test hypotheses, predict outcomes, and explore solutions

Develop a knowledge of teamwork, the body and character through physical education and sport

Employ technology as a tool to extend learning, creativity, problem solving, and interactions

Discern when to turn off technology and focus on eye contact, handshakes, and conversation

Upland’s Liberal Arts curriculum and technological capabilities, carefully balanced with the confidence building experiences of team athletics and an enriching combination of art, music, and drama, offers a program with breadth and depth to help girls and boys maximize their potential during the most important years of their lives.Together with parents, Upland Country Day School seeks to create a personal environment which can make a marked difference in children’s lives by developing habits of the mind and heart that lead to courage in their moral, ethical and intellectual lives, and to the ability to appreciate the uniqueness of self and others.
